the new blue planet - apr 9th, 2020

empty town deserted streets
everyone’s staying inside
(even the moon looks lonely)

confused stir crazy
holding on tight for dear life
determined to prove
we can do it right
beat this thing
that snuck in seemingly overnight
spreading thru the air somehow
everywhere

sad eyes
furtive but brave
peering over masks
hiding tight mouths
afraid to breathe
scared
staring down mortality
lonely and frightened
six feet apart

restless bewildered
anxious hours crawl by
when sleep finally comes
the dreams are strange
eerie surreal
we’re not made for isolation

a solitary jogger
runs down the middle of the street

daily life closed down
suspended indefinitely
no end in sight
no way to get back
to what we thought was reality
it’s all gone
wiped away so fast
