Mingus live in the underworld

Bert Turetzky and Chuck Perrin expose the power of the bass and the word in a unique collaboration that harkens back to the 1950’s experimentation between jazz and poetry.
Turetzky is a celebrated professor emeritus of music at the University Of California San Diego, Perrin a poet and a songwriter. Here they perform a piece written specifically for solo double bass and narrator by Frank Proto & John Chenault – “Mingus Live In The Underworld.” This performance was filmed live at San Diego State University on November 8, 2012.
