A live recording, the first song of a March 2013 performance at dizzy’s in San Diego. The line-up featured jazz pianist Joshua White, bassist Danny Weller, and percussionist Patrick Armenta, with soloists Gilbert Castellanos trumpet, and tenor saxophonist Ben Schachter, along with vocalists Arnessa Rickett, Carmelia Bell, and Deshon Hall.
The song itself, written and performed by acoustic guitarist Chuck Perrin, is a poetic tribute to jazz icons Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane.
ETERNAL FEEL (words & music by Chuck Perrin)
I heard Monk mumbling in the dark down the alley of my dreams last night
torturing the voicings like a genius blurring intervals with epistrophic ecstasy
it was vivid it was so real
I was caught up in the rhythm-wrapped eternal feel
I heard Miles breathing through his horn blocking spaces in the paragraphs of time
canceling the countdown toward destruction with the cool capriciousness of spontaneity
it was vivid it was so real
I was caught up in the rhythm-wrapped eternal feel
I saw Coltrane dozing with his sax hands fingering the stops in fitful sleep
ripping through arpeggiated nightmares taunting the apocalypse with unbridled energy
it was vivid it was so real
I was caught up in the rhythm-wrapped eternal feel
Nothing playing
