Break Up

(Chuck & Mary Perrin)
you don’t me around anymore do you?
honey it isn’t that but . . .
well?
well . . . well what?
why don’t you just cut out
and leave me alone?
I don’t know
you don’t know anything anymore . . .
how do you expect me to love you
if you don’t know what you want?
okay, I’ll be seeing you then . . .
you will?
yeah babe, yeah
break up
why must we go thru
all the heartache that it takes
when all I really want to do
is give my love to you?
my story is simple
but not too smart
I let him walk over me
all over me
but never once did he
step into my heart
my story’s the same
too many girls around
my eyes are wandering eyes
my wandering eyes
keep running after
those other girls I found
break up
why must we go thru
all the heartache that it takes
when all I really want to do
is give my love to you?
can’t you at least try to understand?
understanding needs love
oh why don’t you just get out of my life?
ha!
if you think I’m going to cry . . .
tears, they’re for fools baby
just . . . just leave me alone
sure girl, good bye
goodbye
goodbye baby
it’s all over now
it was fun while it lasted
we were never right for each other anyway
break up
I know we’re thru
it seemed so right
but now tonight
he’s gone away from me
and left me all alone
he’s gone . . .
oh don’t go
I love you
Break Up
About This Song:
One of the prizes for winning the Illinois State Fair folk music contest was a trip to Nashville to meet and record a song @ RCA Studios with Chet Atkins. He showed us around and introduced us to some studio musicians and we got to experience the Nashville system in action. We came back down again 6 weeks later to work on and demo a couple of song ideas. This was one of the songs – sort of a “Leader of the Pack” break up song – that we tried to make sound more natural. Here’s the result, recovered from a well-worn acetate disk: a musical time capsule!
